Babymash: Eat Your Mash (CD, 71:31); Pivot Recordings Glenn Fletcher of New Zealand and friends take up instruments and . . . “SPROING!” I’m confused but this is 17 tracks of raw, rock-in-oppostion-to-sanity music, seems to be a whirling what-not of vox, steel guitar, guitar, keys, banshee screams, feedback, ude, bass, drums, percussion, sax, anti-convention rants, and angst raves. I guess if you like avant garde, frontier- breaking, punkoid, freeform anarchy, then grab this before Fletcher gets committed somewhere in an padded cell. Just joshing. If I had to recommend what direction Babymash should go in, I’d have to say, do more stuff like “Out Of It”, “Blockage Site”, and “Napalm Blues”. Belt out a CD full of that banter- rock and some college radio station on the planet will play the cuts at least 3-5 times a week. Next suggestion: release a CD’s worth of stuff like “The Zone”. I’m sure the Hypnos label would dig it. I bet if Babymash backwards recorded and re-released the other 13 tracks, it could be used to reverse the northern advance of fire ants and the African killer bee into North America. Babymash is bizarro tunes for a whacked world, recommended dietary supplement for lease- breaking and speedy suture-dissolving. ~ John W. Patterson
