Nebula Trip: Birth (CD, 40:15); Nebula Trip, 000, 1999 E-mail: N/A Cyberhome: http://pages.prodigy.net/tjj6662 10 words or less: Improvised space rock of the Ozric Tentacles variety Elaboration: Here we have a demo CD by Hartford, Connecticut's Ozrix clones. I don't know what to say beyond that. The production, as one would expect, leaves a lot to be desired. The band consists of 5 members, two of them being Keyboardists. All members are credited with writing all tunes. Tracks one and two are mid-tempo Rock jams that aspire to the level of Ozrix but don't quite create that blissful nirvana I get from Ozrix. I should mention here that I'm an Ozrix freak who owns all of their albums and box sets. Track three is an ethereal slow jam, again just short of Ozrix brilliance. To sum it up in one sentence; if Ozric Tentacles weren't the prolific artists they are, I would buy the Nebula Trip albums as well. ~ L. Perez
Editor's early opinion of this band before shipping on for a review: =========== After a first listen to NEBULA TRIP's BIRTH . . . Very hip-cool tunes! Everybody rocks well! More entertaining space rock, to my jaded ears, than ALIEN PLANETSCAPES, ESCAPADE, and even surpasses early QUARKSPACE releases. More variety than TRIBE OF CRO. Nearly as groovy as NATIONAL STEAM. OZRICS may still reign but these guys have the potential to outdo the TENTACLES' "same-as-it-ever-was", retread riffage, and well-worn synth/bass grooves-rut. T. Dreamers will love this GREEN DESERT/THIEF type of jamming. HAWKWIND -- move over! NEBULA TRIP is strongly recommended. This album will take you on a metaphysical trip, not the kind that requires help from graduates of online nurse practitioner programs or other medical degrees. Watch out for these guys. ~ John W.
