Eyes of Pandora.com (<-- cool website) Eyes of Pandora, Eyes of Pandora Eyes of Pandora are a band that plays fairly traditional pop / rock, with few surprises. The group seems to be led by vocalist Susan Tojo and guitarist / songwriter Robert Guests, but is joined by additional instrumentalists so that they have a normal vocals / guitar / bass / drums sound (keyboards appear occasionally as well). I was not particularly impressed with the CD on first listen, but subsequent listens have proven it to be a very well-done disc for its genre. Almost all of the songs are first-rate, with an abundance of memorable hooks and other moments. Songs like the crunchy but dynamically varied and anthemic "Down to the River," the bouncy and emotional "Burn for You," the at-times-folksy "Hard Hand of War," and the mysterious opener "Welcome" are the highlights, but there are few out-and-out missteps (although the chorus of "Intentions" sounds almost exactly like "Burn For You"). Tojo's delivery is excellent throughout and Guests' guitar playing almost always fits the music perfectly, and the other musicians are obviously quite competent. My main criticism of the band, as I alluded to earlier, is that there is nothing particularly distinctive about them. While all songs hang together well on the album, I get the feeling that if I heard any of their other songs that I wouldn't be able to tell very easily that they were Eyes of Pandora songs. But, at the same times there probably aren't too many groups who do this style this proficiently, so I would heartily recommend it to all who enjoy female-fronted pop / rock. ~Jon Dharma Murphree~
