Arise From Thorns: Before an Audience of Stars (CD, 67:24); Dark Symphonies, Dark 11, 2001 E-mail: darksympho@aol.com Cyberhome: http://www.darksymphonies.com 10 words or less: Think of crossing Souxsie and the simpler side of Renaissance Elaboration: There is a common term used among fans of progressive Rock music to describe prog that is composed mostly in the time signature of 4/4; it is called Neo-prog. Neo-prog started in the early 80s after the demise of nearly all the first generation prog bands. Some bands that are considered Neo-prog have created some truly excellent albums; Edhels, Marillion and Iris are 3 such bands however, Neo-prog is generally lacking the kind complexity that pushes the hardcore prog fan's buttons. Arise From Thorns combine the minor key depresso-isms of the 80s band Souxsie and the Banshees with the softer acoustic touches of the simpler song-oriented side of Renaissance. Arise From Thorns are a bit too dreary for my tastes but if you enjoy Souxsie, The Cure, The Smiths and late Renaissance you will find this quite good. ~ L Perez
